I bought the Logitech Squeezebox Boom for my home office and enjoyed it so much I bought another one for my office office. There are a lot of reasons to love this one. The highlights:
1. Allows you to access your favorite online music services including Rhapsody, Pandora, Last.fm Sirius and many terrestrial radio stations from a music device rather than your computer. We have friends in Boston that use it to listen to San Francisco-based KFOG's Acoustic Sunrise program.
2. Built-in speakers and wifi mean that the device only requires one chord - for power.
3. Excellent sound quality from such a compact device. Rivals the Bose SoundDock.
4. Stylish design including real buttons (take that, iphone!). Smaller than it looks in the picture.
5. Connects directly to the Internet for content without the need for a server running on a local computer.
6. Nice, compact remote control.
7. Includes line in and line out so you can plug in your ipod and use the speakers or listen with headphones.
Runners-Up (and why): Bose SoundDock (speakers-only so more expensive - only half a solution), Bose Wave Music System ($499 to play CD's? What is this, the 90's?), Logitech Squeezebox (no speakers), Tivoli Audio Hi-Fi Music System ($999 to play CD's and listen to the radio? C'mon now).
The Best: Logitech Squeezebox Boom
